Welcome to my blog!

Welcome to my blog!  I am very excited to begin this journey and I hope my readers enjoy all of the exciting things to come.

A couple of things:

1.  Why did I start this blog?  Well..interestingly enough...one of my course's that I teach for Avila.. I require the students to create a blog.  I figured it was only fair if I also had to create a blog.  I am excited to have this course KICK me in to writing a blog because I have always wanted to create a blog,  but like so many of you will probably understand...it just never made it to the top of my to do list.

2.  What do I intend to talk about on my blog?  Intend?  Yes...well...I intend to talk about the things I love..and the things I love to teach others.  The short version of that list..I refer to it as the four "F's""
  • Fitness:  For those of you that know me already, know that I love LOVE working out.  Some might even say I obsess...I would tend to agree.  My mom will tell you that this  obsession started back when I was 4, and would get up every morning at 5:00 a.m. to do "Mousercise".  Now if that doesn't show my age...  Oh, and for you youngsters who don't remember or have never had the good fortune of being exposed to Mousercise..it was an exercise program for kids founded by Disney that promoted health and fitness while featuring Disney music and their fave character's  (Mickey, Goofy, etc.).  Then came age 5 when I was sporting my legwarmers, and I moved on up to the daily "20 minute workout" that was on at 5:30 a.m.  Yes...a 5 year old working out at 5:30 a.m.  Need I say more??  Fast forward to age 30 and I still work out everyday, but lucky for my neighbors, minus the legwarmers.  In recent years I have definitely expanded the exercise activities I enjoy.  Topping off that list:  1.  running  2.  strength training  3.  boot camp classes (created by..you guessed it.. Mrs. Legwarmers herself).  I hope to help all of my friends and followers looking to start or change up a good routine.  I know I am always looking for tips or new exercises that will help me improve my fitness abilities, and I look forward to providing my readers with some good information.
  • Fashion..Fashion..and more Fashion:  I love shopping...and even more than shopping.. I love creating a unique design every day when I get dressed.  My closet is like my tools, and creating an outfit is my art.  I look forward to providing my readers with some great ideas, and all while staying within a reasonable budget...after all...read on to my next bullet..
  • Finance:  I teach undergraduate and graduate Accounting and Finance courses.  I love being a "bean counter".  I hope to use this blog as a way to share some of my personal finance knowledge, and to help those readers who may struggle in this area.  Also, to reach out those readers who just like to learn about how to be more financially savvy.
  • Food:  I am a vegetarian, and am always trying to find new ways to eat clean and natural (staying away from those packaged and processed foods), and all on a budget and while maintaining a crazy hectic work schedule.  I am obsessed with educating myself on what I eat, and what really lurks in those food packages.  I am excited to share some of these "finds" with my readers.
3.  Ok so what does the title of my blog have to do with this?  Well..I teach...so clearly I love the Chinese proverb that goes a little something like this..."Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day.  Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."  This is my inspiration for everyday life.  I love to teach, and want to blog about all of the things I love, and to give my readers something to read that will enrich their lives.

Happy reading and please feel free to comment on any particular topics you would like to hear about!  After all...I love student interaction ;) !

Until next time..
Sara

  1. Great blog, Sara. As I probably stated in my introduction, I would also love to teach adult classes. I haven't really pursued it yet; however, once I'm done with being a student, I plan to.

  3. Sara,
I love your energy and enthusiasm. In fact, I envy it. I would be interested in knowing what some of your favorite recipes are and how to prepare meals that are vegetarian. I've tried a few things with tofu and they turned out good but the family would not buy into it. I am one of those mid-west people who don't know how to fix a meatless meal.
I also want to be physically fit and have a trip to Colorado coming up this summer. I want to hike to Lone Pine Lake, but know I cannot do it in the shape I am currently in. I admire you for starting your fitness at age 4. I'll bet you were cute with the leg warmers!

    1. Do you enjoy walking? If so, I could help put together a walking plan for you. I would love to help! I think walking is the best way to introduce fitness into any lifestyle. Let me know!!!

  4. Hi Sara I hope you are feeling better (even though I like getting out of class :-)). I did wake up with a sore throat today and I currently still have it. I hope it goes away soon. Both of my teachers were sick last week- there must be something passing around the campus- Have a great Easter.

  6. Sara, it is great to have you on board. I'm very interested in what I can from you when it comes to being more financially savvy. Because you know I don't want to know anything you have to say or know on the NBA. Laker for Life!

  7. Hi Sara. I am not seeing my reply that I posted to you last week for some reason. I thought I had better try again. Yes, I did call you an overachiever in my first response. Just kidding. I am actually a little jealous at all that you accomplish on a daily basis. I would love to be able to "love" exercise but it is just not there for me. I get bored so easily and honestly, if I had a personal trainer who could whip me into shape, boot camp style, I would definitely do it. Who can afford that though? Unless you know of someone that is reasonable in the Northland. If so, let me know. I would be more than happy to join.
